The 12-member group consists of 7 Korean members, 4 Chinese members, and 1 Chinese-American member and will be debuting this January 5 with a single titled "U R My Only One". The interview asked the Chinese members to name any Korean stars they wanted to meet, and Jaebin replied, "Oh Hyuk sunbaenim. I like him because he has his own, unique color and voice. If you listen to it, you recognize it as Oh Hyuk's voice right away, so I'm also a little envious. I also want to become someone with his own color." Xin added, "Hwang Chi Yeol sunbaemin. He's very famous in China because he came out on a singing program. Judging by his good looks, you'd think his voice would be soft and delicate, so I was very surprised when he sang powerfully."

How did VARSITY's Chinese members end up debuting in Korea? Manny said, "I wanted to become a singer, and my dream was to become an idol in Korea", while Damon answered, "Korea's hip-hop culture is famous worldwide. I wanted to learn hip-hop in Korea and debut in Korea." Xin added, "My dream ever since I was young was to become a celebrity, and I've studied to become a celebrity up until now. I had a lot of interest in Korea so I look up information on Korea and decided to try being a Korean idol group member, which I was given a chance to do." Finally, Jaebin shared, "I was interested in Hallyu and liked it. That's why I came to university in Korea, sought opportunities to debut in an idol group, and got the chance to enter this company."
