The incident occurred this past August 27 at a restaurant situated in Gyeonggi Province's Seongnam City. Surveillance footage shows a couple that appear to be in their twenties arriving at the restaurant in a car and entering with their two children, a 5-year-old and a 3-year-old, in tow. 

Once the family finished eating their food, the father paid for the meal and stepped outside. After pacing around for a bit, the father gets in the car and drives off. Upon seeing her husband leave without a word, the wife also grabs her bag and darts outside without bothering to look back at her children. 

Police got in touch with the parents after inquiring into the license plate number that was captured on surveillance footage. The mother reportedly responded, "They're not my children. I think you have the wrong number," while the father explained that he had "left the children in his wife's care." 

Four hours after they abruptly departed the restaurant, the father returned to pick up his children only after police informed him that he could be punished by the law. 

The father testified to police that he and his wife had argued after the wife attempted to run away from home. Police plan to summon both parents and investigate them for charges of child abandonment.
