Lee Hi got a little personal in an interview session with TV Report, broaching a number of subjects including whether she feels any resentment toward Yang Hyun Suk, the pros and cons of being an artist under YG, and why it took three years for her to make a comeback.
The singer snuggled comfortably in the corner of a cafe to discuss these topics on the afternoon of March 14, opening up with, "I've made a comeback after three years. First, I'm really anxious. I've thought a lot in the process of preparing [for this comeback]. I'm spending my days happily listening to songs and getting to perform on stage after three years."
She added, "There are many artists at our company. Because Big Bang were promoting, [my comeback] was continuously pushed back and delayed. But I think that was for the better."
The singer then talked about the pros and cons of being a YG artist. She said, "I think an advantage would be that I can go on a world tour. The disadvantage is the length of my hiatus. YG itself is a very big company so even without [my help] the older artists have already established it as a global powerhouse. I think that's provided an environment for me to work comfortably. I hope that YG will be able to help me establish myself musically."
Lee Hi also touched upon a slightly sensitive matter, answering whether she felt resentful at all about being considered as secondary to the more established artists. She said, "I wasn't resentful toward the company. [But] I was resentful and disappointed that I couldn't do anything about my energy and passion. Then I realized that that's actually become an advantage for me. I think many people's expectations for me grew bigger, and I wasn't resentful of the results."
Lee Hi also directly mentioned Papa YG, saying, "If there is anything different about him, it's that he smiles at me more often than before. He may be stern but inside that sternness is warmth."
