This this time, the controversy surrounds indie band Sugar Ball and the alleged disrespectful way the 'Cheese in the Trap' crew had treated them.
Sugar Ball Go Chang In's Tweet from last month has resurfaced recently and become a hot issue, bringing even more heat in the direction of 'Cheese in the Trap.' The Tweet reads, "Take care of the session fee owed to me for the mix and mastering by yourself, and it was the 'Cheese in the Trap' crew that asked if we had any songs leftover for their OST. Ah, right, there was no payment for the song either."
The music director who was in charge of the 'Cheese in the Trap' OST retweeted Go Chang In's post and wrote, "What I retweeted is enough to make anyone angry. Because they said direct production wasn't possible, I decided against commercials songs and chose to use songs created by my friends who are in indie bands. I also requested to make the terms and conditions favorable when supplying the songs but anything beyond that exceeds my authority so there was nothing I could do."
CJ E&M came forward with an explanation regarding this issue, telling Sports Chosun on March 11, "It was planned with the production crew to use indie music for the 'Cheese in the Trap' OST unlike our original OST concept. The terms and conditions were formed with the good intention to split the profits evenly among the OST production team and the indie artists under our label. The terms and conditions with the label went smoothly with every artists who was a part of the OST, and because the results were also good, we were all satisfied. Countless indie bands were recommended, but from what I understand, the person who wrote the post never entered into a contract [with us]."
In the end, the OST was filled with songs by indie artists, and instead of receiving separate fees, the artists were given an equal share of the profits. A rep of CJ E&M relayed, "The 'Cheese in the Trap' OST rose to top of the charts and received a lot of positive attention, and was also received well by the indie bands who provided the music, so we were surprised that a controversy like this occurred."
