A tragic freak accident ended up in the death of three people and left four others with minor injuries.
Around 9:10am (KST) on October 14, a 25 ton concrete mixer truck was speeding through a four-way intersection in Chungcheong Province's Seosan City, trying to make the light before it turned red, when it lost its balance and fell onto a passenger car.
The truck driver, in a hurry to make the light, failed to see a scooter to his right and had swerved too quickly. While the truck managed to avoid crashing into the cyclist, it tipped to the left from the sudden and sharp turn, falling on and crushing a passenger vehicle.
It was reported that three people, a 49-year-old man identified as Kwon and two women in the vehicle, passed away immediately. The truck driver, 44-year-old Kim, suffered injuries from the accident. Kwon and the women who were riding in the passenger car were residents of the same neighborhood and were returning from a chapel nearby.
Police are currently investigating the accident, questioning the truck driver and anyone who were witnesses.
