Hello Venus is back with their new single, 'Sticky Sticky.' It's been a year since we've seen these ladies, and now, with the addition of two new members, they're back stronger than ever. For this track, they collaborated with hit-makers Brave Brothers, so let's take a listen!
"Sticky Sticky" gets in the groove from the get go with a funky beat and saxophone intro, leading into the rounds of "hello, hello" that are fitting for the group's name. The song reminds me a little of a cutesy version of "First Love" by After School, another song previously produced by Brave Brothers. This track is a cross between aegyo and sexy, which is a unique pairing—while their vocals sound very young and feminine, the lyrics such as, "You can't take your eyes off me," give off a sultry and confident vibe. In general, I can't help but think there are some sexual undertones in the lyrics (I mean, "sticky sticky risky risky"….), but Hello Venus's sweet-sounding vocal talent tastefully tones it down. The track is nothing groundbreaking and out of the ordinary, but it's a catchy tune with a distinct K-Pop color.
The music video fits the tone of the song really well. The ladies are in a glammed-up, retro candy shop for much of the music video—on a side note, I love the coloring of this music video. There is a mix of cute, sexy, and glam looks. Overall, each member of Hello Venus looks cute and stunning in the video—the dance moves, however, are more on the sexy side with 90% of the dance moves involving some twirling of the booty. To be honest, the main choreography is like a less catchy version of Girl's Day's "Expectation" dance. However, I'll probably be dancing to this when I sing this song at karaoke, too.
In general, this promotion lacks creativity, but it's another one of those tunes that you'll probably jam out to while getting ready in the morning or driving around in your car. Again, it's nothing we haven't seen before, but a solid track nonetheless.
