He explained his choice to become a pop star. "I play the violin and the piano, and I do composing work," he said on 'Yoo Hee Yeol's Sketchbook'. "If I became a classical artist, I would've only done performances. So I decided to be a singer."
"I only had three seconds' worth of solo parts," he said, talking about his activities with Super Junior-M. "It was too short and I felt a little guilty. I didn't do anything, but people still liked me. That's how I felt about that."
"I told them that I wanted to do music and stand on stage with my own music," he continued. "I learned in a few months, and SM told me I could do whatever I wanted so I put it to reality. I learned a lot about composing and singing."
