Will Psy achieve the coveted #1 spot on Billboard's 'Hot 100' chart this time around? The instant success of his new single "Gentleman" gives hope for breaking his previous record of #2 on the chart.
Within only six days since its release, Psy's "Gentleman" made a strong debut at #12 on Billboard's 'Hot 100' chart. "Gentleman" surpassed the previous debut of "Gangnam Style" on the 'Hot 100' which charted at #64 at 61 days after initial release.
However, last time, Billboard's new system, which factors into account YouTube views into its total point system, wasn't in place and "Gangnam Style" had to rely on radio play and downloads to get to its #2 spot. Now that YouTube views are partially accounted for in the overall, many hope that it'll give Psy the edge to push it up to #1 this time around.
In addition, the song has also been ranked in the Top 10 of iTunes' charts in 77 countries, and #1 in 39 of those!
The "Gentleman" MV itself has now surpassed 137 million views, rapidly increasing with each second that passes.
Psy will be leaving for the States on April 20th to kick off his overseas promotions.
