Beginning this week, Way Back Wednesday is going to go through a bit of a remodeling. Over the past year, I've tried to feature the important singers, songs, trends, and events that have helped shape the K-pop industry and the music that you enjoy today. But after over a year, it's become increasingly difficult to come up with new ideas and topics that we haven't already covered. So instead of writing these long articles every week, I think that some weeks can focus on a single song or group that was at the top of the music charts on this date "way back when". Also, since a lot of you readers are much, MUCH younger than me, I wanted to broaden the date range that could be considered "way back" to feature more of the music that we all love.
This week, we're featuring a song that definitely isn't too old and was one of the biggest hits for the ladies of Jewelry . "One More Time" was the first single off of the group's fifth album, 'Kitchi Island' and was a number one hit this week back in 2008. The album marked a new look Jewelry with members Baby J and Eunjung joining veterans Seo In Young and Park Jung Ah as the group tried to replicate the success they had from their previous album. The song was a cover of a 2002 club hit from Italian singer In-Grid but with the foursome putting their own spin on the music. The song was a huge success and is probably best remembered for the swooshing, E.T.-like finger connecting dance. At the time, the song held the record for most consecutive #1's on Music Bank with 7 consecutive victories.
The group is still going strong in its third iteration as Park Jung Ah and Seo In Young moved on to different career paths but when you think of the group Jewelry, this has to be one of, if not the first song we all remember. For you older K-pop fans, it's a pleasant feeling to listen to the song again just one more time.
