CEO Yang Hyun Suk of YG Entertainment revealed that MC Lee Kyung Kyu was the one that had given YG Entertainment its name.
During the opening of the May 14th episode of SBS's 'Healing Camp', Yang Hyun Suk remarked that part of the reason he decided to appear on the show was to thank MC Lee Kyung Kyu, surprising the other emcees as well as Lee Kyung Kyu, himself.
"You may not remember but when we appeared on a variety show together 20 years ago, you were the first person to call me Yang-goon. That eventually became my nickname and when I started setting up the company, I named it as Yang-goon Company," Yang Hyun Suk said. "So the 'YG' is the initial for Yang-goon."
Upon hearing Yang Hyun Suk's statement, the other emcees quickly faced MC Lee Kyung Kyu and began showing their respect by shaking hands. They also asked him to give them nicknames that they could use when naming their own agencies later.
