Heads up, Tri-State readers: the Korean Student Association of Rutgers University (RUKSA) is back once again for their fifth annual 'ProjectKorea' show!
Titled, 'Dream Higher', this year's show is a twist off of the wildly popular idol drama 'Dream High', complete with performances by singer Arden Cho and singer-comedian David So.
ProjectKorea has created a name for itself, consistently delivering impressive live performances by members of RUKSA each year. For the second year running, the show will feature the finalists of Rutgers' 'Superstar KSA 2' competition, who will compete with their own original songs.
'Dream Higher', whose cast includes a student who competed on SBS 'K-Pop Star' in the fall, follows the story of four aspiring stars at Kirin Academy. Read the full synopsis below:
At the height of Japanese Imperialism in 1932, one Korean activist named Sado Lee struggles to rise up against the oppressive government until he mysteriously finds himself at and enrolled in Kirin Academy in 2012. In present day Korea, Kirin Academy is the most prestigious school for musically gifted students. Many students, like best friends Becky Youn and Suzy Bae, audition for the chance to become a professional idol like Kirin's star prodigy, Jay Park. As the friendship between Becky and Suzy falters, Jay grapples with his feelings for Suzy and the high expectations put upon him as a member of the K-pop group Bro*Star. All the while, the past and present converge as Sado struggles to realize his destiny and meet the challenges of his professors in this strange time period.
In previous years, ProjectKorea has featured headliners including Jay Park & Art of Movement, Clara C, Ailee, Decipher. Johnnyphlo and One Way, and delivered performances based off the Korean dramas 'Hong Gil Dong' and more.
