It's no question that Baker King / Kim Tak Goo had caught the attention of many viewers during its broadcast, receiving ratings of 50.8% for its final broadcast (TNS). However, an interesting tidbit that not many people knew about was recently revealed. During a recent interview with Sports Korea, it was revealed that screenwriter Kang Eun Kyung was a big fan of Big Bang's Daesung, and had wanted to name the main character 'Kang Daesung'. However, because of pronunciation and other problems, fellow scriptwriter Lee Kyung Hee recommended changing the name to 'Kim Tak Goo' instead. Kang Eun Kyung revealed that 'Tak Goo' was also chosen because when it's written in Hanja (Chinese characters), it means 'striving for excellence'. Unfortunately Daesung's name couldn't be used, as it definitely would have been a treat for all Daesung fans. Source: Hankooki Picture: KBS Tip: Waxy Wine
