Bring the Korean Bakery Home: Here are 3 simple Korean desserts to make

AKP STAFF

Korean desserts, known for their airy texture and balanced sweetness, are a delightful treat for any palate. Yet, for some of our readers, finding a local Korean bakery isn't always easy. Fortunately, you can now whip up these delicious pastries in the comfort of your own kitchen. Here are three simple recipes that bring the mouthwatering world of Korean desserts right to your home!

1. Bingsu: As the season gets warmer and warmer, it's the perfect time to get a bowl of bingsu! Get an ice shaver and shave the ice or you can freeze some milk, and grate it into a bowl. Then top it off with any topping of choice! You can find sweet red bean paste in any Asian grocery store, or if you're more the fruity type, dice up some of your favorites (I personally love mangoes and strawberries). Finish it off with a drizzle of sweetened condensed milk and you have yourself homemade bingsu!

2. Korean mocha bun: If you're a coffee dessert lover, then this one is for you! Mocha buns are known for their crusty yummy shell, and while the bun itself originally takes some time to make, here is a shortcut version that you can make at home! Also known as Rotiboy toast, just take a slice of bread, some butter, icing sugar, egg, and instant coffee powder, mix away, and place onto the bread. Then put it into the oven, and your house will smell like the inside of a coffee shop!

3. Korean lunchbox cake: The miniature cakes that have recently taken the internet by storm offer a sweet treat that's as charming to behold as it is to consume, all without overloading on sugar. To recreate these tiny delicacies at home, you only need a few ingredients: a cake mix of your choice, and either whipped cream or buttercream for frosting. Begin by baking the cake as per the mix instructions, then slice it into petite layers of your preferred size. The final step involves artfully applying a layer of your chosen frosting. Voila, you've successfully crafted a mini cake that promises an undeniably sweet delight in every bite!

Make sure to try out these recipes for a sweet taste of Korea at home!

I like Hotteok, Custard Cream Bread, and all kinds of Kimchi or seafood or green onions.
