The new tvN weekend drama 'When the Stars Gossip,' set to premiere on January 4, 2025, follows the lives of Commander Eve Kim (played by Gong Hyo Jin), who leads a zero-gravity space station, and a mysterious intruder, Gong Ryong (played by Lee Min Ho), on a secret mission. The drama explores their extraordinary experiences beyond Earth.

This project marks Gong Hyo Jin's return to television after six years. Playing the role of Commander Eve Kim, she revealed her reasons for choosing the drama: 

“The novelty of a drama set in space, and the freshness of taking on the role of a captain rather than a subordinate—something I often portrayed in writer Seo Sook Hyang’s works—drew me in. Additionally, the trusted collaboration of director Park Shin Woo and writer Seo Sook Hyang played a significant role in my decision.”

Gong Hyo Jin described Eve Kim with the phrase “crispy on the outside, soft on the inside,” adding: “Unlike my previous roles, Eve isn’t interested in or affectionate toward people. She’s primarily fascinated by experimental life forms. I focused on maintaining the upright, composed demeanor of a commander.”

 She explained that as a space scientist, much of her wardrobe consisted of space suits and uniforms: “The costumes emphasized the charisma of a space scientist. Instead of trendy items, I opted for timeless, cool pieces.”

Gong highlighted the drama’s unique appeal, noting that every scene is based on zero-gravity settings: “Filming the space station scenes involved wire action, which was challenging because it’s an environment I’ve never experienced. It felt like starting from scratch for every scene,” she shared.

Gong emphasized that the drama is not about space wars or alien invasions but focuses on the everyday life of people living in space. “This mysterious drama captures the essence of life in an unknown realm. I hope it answers viewers’ curiosities. It’s a chance to reflect on what space research scientists risk their lives to protect for humanity,” she said, adding a heartfelt request: “Please watch with affection.”
