Comedian Park Na Rae has made a donation to support the victims of the tragic Jeju Air crash.
According to reports from Maeil Business Star Today, Park Na Rae delivered her donation on December 30th through the local government, requesting that it be used to aid those affected by the accident that occurred at Muan International Airport.
On December 29th, Park had already expressed her condolences by posting a photo of a white chrysanthemum along with the message, "Rest in peace," on her social media.
Born in Muan, South Jeolla Province, and having spent her childhood in Mokpo, Park Na Rae is believed to have been especially affected by the tragedy.
Park has a history of philanthropy, previously donating 10 million KRW (approximately $7,600 USD) to a children's hospital on Children's Day and 20 million KRW (approximately $15,200 USD) to Yonsei Severance Hospital on her birthday, demonstrating her consistent positive influence.
According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport, the Jeju Air flight 7C2216 from Bangkok to Muan International Airport crashed on December 29th at 9:03 AM, colliding with the airport's runway outer wall during landing. Of the 181 people onboard, only two crew members survived, making this the deadliest aviation disaster in South Korea’s history. Many of the victims were residents of Gwangju and South Jeolla Province.
The government has declared a national mourning period until January 4th.
As a result, major year-end events, including the '2024 MBC Entertainment Awards,' where Park Na Rae was scheduled to appear, have been canceled or postponed by the three major broadcasters.
