Kyuhyun, the trusted vocalist of Super Junior, has made a remarkable solo comeback, celebrating his 10th anniversary since his debut with a new album. On November 27, a listening session for Kyuhyun’s first solo full album, COLORS, took place at M Cube, Cheongdam Cine City in Gangnam, Seoul.

Kyuhyun shared his current activities, saying, “I’ve been working hard on preparing for the album, as well as meeting about the upcoming Asia tour starting in December at Olympic Hall. I’m also continuing rehearsals for the musical The Man Who Laughs that starts in January. Along with that, I’m still filming various variety shows that I’m working on."

The album COLORS is a collection that features emotional ballads, dance tracks, pop songs, and classical grand ballad styles, showcasing the diverse vocal abilities of Kyuhyun. "This is my first full-length solo album, 10 years after my debut," Kyuhyun said. "It means a lot, and I’m grateful to the fans and the company for supporting it. Please give it lots of love."

Reflecting on his solo debut 10 years ago, Kyuhyun mentioned, “I made my solo debut in November 2014 with ‘At Gwanghwamun,’ and now, in November 2024, I’m releasing my first full album for my 10th anniversary. Honestly, I never had a huge desire to release a full album, but the company suggested that it would be meaningful, so we decided to release it."

Kyuhyun also shared that the album preparation began after his move to Antenna in January. He expressed, “It’s fascinating that even before the album is out, the company is already discussing the next one. We’re preparing it now, and it seems it’ll be a long-term project that I’m excited about."

The album's concept came after Kyuhyun realized the significance of releasing a full album. He added, "I’ve released five mini albums before, and I felt that releasing a full album was worth it, even though I had doubts about its purpose."

COLORS is Kyuhyun’s second album after joining Antenna, and he described his satisfaction with the album's progress. "There’s definitely more synergy now compared to the last album. We’ve been able to understand each other’s tastes and direction, so this time, the process was much smoother and less burdensome."

The album features the title track Unending Days, which delicately expresses the aftermath of a heartbreaking breakup. Kyuhyun mentioned that while he loves the title track, his personal favorite is Horizon, a song filled with peaceful and tender emotions.

The album also includes a variety of songs, such as Journey, which evokes a peaceful landscape on a sunny day, Universe, which conveys the thrill of love, and Bring It On, a lively uptempo pop dance track. There’s also Last Poem, a cozy winter ballad, and other tracks like Nights Without You, a dramatic piece with a musical touch, and Wishes, a song filled with hope.

Kyuhyun also included a few of his own compositions on the album, including the minimalist piano track One Spring Day, which he performed live at the listening session, showcasing his powerful vocals. Reflecting on his songwriting, Kyuhyun shared that One Spring Day was written 5-6 years ago and had originally been called the "Malibu Ballad," but he later changed the title to make it more fitting.

Regarding his collaboration with You Hee Yeol, CEO of Antenna, Kyuhyun praised the working relationship, noting, "You Hee Yeol was always present during the recording, providing constant feedback and advice for every song. The process was faster because he was always nearby."

When asked about messages from his Super Junior members or other artists celebrating his 10th solo anniversary, Kyuhyun said with a smile, “I don’t expect too much. I’m sure the members will congratulate me when they hear it, but they probably don’t know that the album is out yet.”

Looking back on his career, Kyuhyun fondly recalled the struggles leading up to his solo debut, expressing gratitude toward SM Entertainment for supporting him through it. “I started my career in Super Junior in 2006 under SM, and I was worried about releasing my first solo album in 2014. I had doubts, but SM allowed me to release it, and that’s why I’m able to celebrate this 10th anniversary.”

As he continues to juggle various roles as a singer, musical actor, and entertainer, Kyuhyun reflected on the challenges but remains committed to balancing his diverse career. "I don’t know what the future holds, but right now, I’m enjoying being a multi-faceted artist, doing everything with full concentration in the moment."

Lastly, Kyuhyun humorously mentioned that he doesn’t expect big success on the charts but is simply grateful to have fans who enjoy his music. "I’ve stopped focusing on chart rankings, but I do hope that the people who love my music will come to my concerts," he said.

Through this album, Kyuhyun has solidified his place as a versatile and beloved artist, marking 10 years of solo success with COLORS, a testament to his enduring musical journey.
