Jung Da Eun, who recently made headlines for her alleged involvement in the late actor Lee Sun Gyun’s drug case, has been acquitted of perjury charges related to her former partner, Han Seo Hee, an ex-idol trainee. The case revolved around claims that Jung Da Eun provided false testimony about Han Seo Hee’s drug use.
On November 21, the Seoul Eastern District Court’s 1-2 Criminal Division dismissed the prosecution’s appeal and upheld the not-guilty verdict from the initial trial.
The court explained its decision, stating, “Han Seo Hee testified that she injected drugs in the bathroom, which suggests that neither she nor the defendant witnessed each other using drugs. The defendant’s response, indicating a lack of awareness of the drug use, appears credible. Maintaining the original ruling is not unjust.”
In 2017, Han Seo Hee was investigated for drug use. During the investigation, Jung Da Eun testified that she “had never seen Han Seo Hee using drugs and did not know how she used them.” This statement led to her indictment in January 2022 on false testimony charges.
In the initial trial, the court found Jung not guilty, citing evidence that supported her claim. The court referenced letters Han Seo Hee sent to fellow inmates, which implied she could have used drugs alone, as well as syringes containing only Han Seo Hee’s DNA found during her arrest.
The court further stated, “Given the strained relationship between Han Seo Hee and the defendant, and considering the confirmed guilty verdicts in related cases, it cannot be ruled out that Han Seo Hee made false statements to disadvantage the defendant.”
Despite this, prosecutors appealed, arguing that Han Seo Hee’s testimony was credible and questioning the validity of the letters submitted as evidence during the first trial.
Jung Da Eun and Han Seo Hee were in the spotlight in 2019 when their same-sex relationship became public. Han Seo Hee, who had previously been convicted of smoking marijuana with former Big Bang member T.O.P in 2018, gained notoriety for her involvement in multiple drug-related controversies.
Jung Da Eun, now legally known as Lee Tae Kyun, is an electronic music composer who is undergoing gender transition and receiving male hormone treatments.
However, Jung has faced her own legal challenges, having been sentenced to prison in 2016 and 2021 for drug-related offenses, including methamphetamine use. Jung was also re-arrested on similar charges in the past.
