Actress Kim Tae Ri reveals she took language training in Mokpo for her drama role.
On October 1st KST, Kim Tae Ri appeared on the YouTube channel TEO’s "Salon Drip 2" alongside Shin Ye Eun. The two actresses are set to star as rivals in the upcoming tvN drama "Jeong Nyeon," which is scheduled to air this month.
During the show, host Jang Do Yeon asked, “Did you film in Mokpo, or is the story set there? I heard you went for language training.” Kim Tae Ri, who plays the character Yoon Jeong Nyeon, responded, “Yes, my character is from Mokpo. They say that language learning starts with listening, so I went to Mokpo to immerse myself.” She added, “We also had a dialect coach, and some of the other actors joined me.”
Jang Do Yeon then asked, “When did you feel the most accomplished, like you were glad to have gone, and when did you feel like it was really clicking?” Kim Tae Ri humorously replied, “Whenever I told people I went on a language training trip. That was the most fun part! When people asked me, ‘How have you been?’ I’d say, ‘I went for language training.’ Then they’d ask where, and I’d say, ‘Mokpo,’ and just laugh to myself.”
Jang Do Yeon noted that “once dialects stick, it’s hard to shake them off. Do you still have some of it left?” Kim Tae Ri agreed, saying, “Yes, it’s difficult,” before showcasing a natural Mokpo dialect, which impressed the hosts. When asked if she originally spoke in dialect, she laughed and said, “Not at all, I’m a Seoul native,” drawing more laughter from the audience.
