K-dramas have captivated viewers worldwide with their intricate and heartwarming romance stories. From CEO romances to office love affairs and even thrilling romantic tales, production companies continue to churn out a plethora of romance K-dramas. Especially this year, 2024 seems to be the year where we’re getting all things romance!

Viewers were treated to one of the biggest romance dramas of all time, “Queen of Tears,” which had the world in a chokehold of emotions. Shortly thereafter, “Lovely Runner” took the drama world by storm, making everyone wish for more high-teen romances. While everyone has their preferences, we've been blessed with a variety of romance plots this year. The question is, which type do viewers love more?

Do viewers prefer the innocent love stories that leave them craving a typical happily ever after, or do they lean towards thrilling romances that keep them on the edge of their seats, anticipating the next twist in the couple’s relationship?

Despite being in the same genre, these romance plots exist on opposite spectrums. On one hand, we have the light-hearted, flirty romances. Take “The Business Proposal,” for example—a story about a food developer who ends up on a blind date with her boss. It’s comedic, features great characters, and is overall an enjoyable drama to watch. Then there are classics like “Boys Over Flowers” and “The Heirs,” which focus on the clichéd high school love triangle.

On the other hand, we have the thrilling romances that are more serious and dramatic, truly putting viewers on an emotional roller coaster. “Queen of Tears” had everyone rooting for the main leads to get their happy ending despite the chaos—from Hong Hae In’s deadly illness to Baek Hyun Woo’s car accident. Or consider “Suspicious Partner,” where the main lead is falsely accused of murder and fights to uncover the true culprit.
