Na Young Seok PD's latest venture, 'NANA Tour with Seventeen,' is facing challenges in attracting viewership despite featuring the popular idol group Seventeen.
tvN's 'NANA Tour with Seventeen,' is Na Young Seok PD's latest variety show with Seventeen. It initially garnered attention for its unconventional attempt to broadcast a variety show featuring an idol group during prime time.
Seventeen members have been showcasing their charm in Italy, however, the show struggled to make a significant impact in terms of viewership ratings. Starting with a 2% viewership rating, the rating stayed around 1.9% throughout the episodes.
The show's format is not much different from the variety programs that have been released before but it does not seem to have properly appealed to the general public who aren't Seventeen's fans.
Previously during the press conference, Na Young Seok PD responded to a concern that the variety shows featuring idol groups have a high psychological barrier for the general public saying, "I wanted to create content that features an idol group since K-pop and idol industry have gone global. If I were to start creating such a show, I thought I should do it with Seventeen. We have no intent to make a program that only fans would watch. I don't think the barrier is high as people would view it as young people traveling and having fun along the way."
With only two episodes left, however, 'NANA Tour' is unlikely to see a dramatic rebound in ratings. It is doubtful that Na Young Seok PD will be able to continue to collaborate with idol groups and gain popularity with the general public.
I’m not a fan of Seventeen (I don’t dislike them tho!), but freaking love this show and actually rewatched some of the episodes. I am usually a sucker for travel variety shows because it is an entertaining way to learn about different travel destinations and Na PD’s shows always add a fun and endearing twist. Now, the reason as to why I actually went as far as rewatching some episodes (despite their length) is because the Seventeen members are true variety show gems. They deserve due credit for that and so does the production staff - it’s not easy to film and edit a show with 12 ( +1 member who couldn’t go + 1 Na PD) AND still bring out each of their charms. Once again, I am NOT a Seventeen fan (nor am I into kpop for that matter), but I hope more people come to realize how amazing the synergy is
