Amid a wave of provocative and daring dramas emerging on OTT platforms, 'S-Line,' a Wavve original, is making a bold debut with an intense premise: a red line appears, linking people who have had sexual relations. This sensational concept, however, goes beyond mere shock value. It weaves a complex psychological and mystery-driven narrative, boldly venturing into new genre territory.

Premiered on Wavve on July 11, 'S-Line' is based on the webtoon of the same name by Komabi, known for 'A Killer Paradox.' The show brings to life a strikingly imaginative concept, using a visible “line” as a device to explore human nature and desire. In the drama, only a select few can see these red connections through special “glasses,” heightening the psychological tension and complexity between characters.

A Psychological Chase Among Four Characters Entangled by Desire and Secrets

The story revolves around four individuals caught in a tangled web: detective Ji Wook (Lee Soo Hyuk), homeroom teacher Gyu Jin (portrayed by Lee Da Hee), the mysterious student Hyun Heup (Oh My Girl’s Arin), and the vengeful Sun Ah (Lee Eun Saem). Each character harbors personal wounds and hidden desires, gradually exposed through the "S-Line" as their relationships unfold. The blurred lines between reality and fantasy make for an immersive and unsettling watch.

Actors Reinvent Themselves as New Characters

Actress Lee Da Hee shared at the press conference, “I tried to show a completely different side of myself, from styling to demeanor.” Lee Soo Hyuk added, “On set, each actor completely transformed into their character.” Their deep immersion and drastic image shifts add to the anticipation surrounding their performances.

Director Ahn Joo Young commented, “At its core, this is a story about people. It centers on how desires shift once someone starts seeing the S-Line.” The drama aims to differentiate itself from typical genre shows by digging deeply into human conflict and transformation, going far beyond its fantasy elements.

A Global Contender that Couldn’t Exist on Broadcast TV

'S-Line' has drawn international attention as well. It was the only Korean title selected for the main competition at the 8th Cannes International Series Festival, where it also won Best Music. Music director Lee Jun Oh was praised for elevating the drama’s intensity through his sound design, which sensually represents the show’s themes of taboo and desire.

Thanks to the creative freedoms of OTT platforms, 'S-Line' could push boundaries unthinkable on traditional broadcast TV. The series boldly explores themes of sexuality, violence, and societal taboos, delivering a raw and provocative narrative that feels grounded in reality.

Moreover, OTT platforms allow content creators to adjust the age rating for each episode, and viewers can watch on their own time and terms. This flexibility enables a freer, more cohesive storytelling experience, enhancing both immersion and production quality while offering a viewing experience distinctly different from traditional dramas.

Carrying the Torch of Globally Successful R-Rated Korean Dramas

Following in the footsteps of globally acclaimed adult-rated Korean dramas like 'Squid Game,' 'Extracurricular,' and 'All of Us Are Dead,' 'S-Line' holds the potential to capture international audiences with its gripping storyline, sharp direction, and intense performances.

'S-Line' will be released in six episodes - two each on July 11, 18, and 25. With its explosive blend of taboo, desire, truth, and deception, this drama goes beyond entertainment to pose sharp questions about human nature. 'S-Line' introduces a bold new face to Korean drama that viewers have never seen before.
