Actress Ahn Eun Jin has expressed her thoughts on "stanning" in the K-pop community.
On the January 6th episode of JTBC's 'Knowing Brothers,' actress Ahn Eun Jin made a guest appearance along with actor Nam Goong Min. During the segment, Ahn Eun Jin was asked to play the game of 'This or That.' One of the questions was if she would talk with her bias Hanni for 10 minutes or get a ticket to a highly popular concert of NewJeans.
She chose to go to a 2-hour long concert and then shared, "You shouldn't meet your bias. This is because stanning someone means that you like someone including your idea of that person so if you get to meet or know them in person, you are going to realize they are also just another human under the same sky."
Following the broadcast, fans across different groups and genres have found common ground in her observation. Some of the comments include:
"So true. I like having some distance when it comes to stanning."
"lol I feel like she could have been my moot on Twitter without me knowing."
"I totally agree. I prefer going to concerts than going to fan sign events."
"I can't agree more because I once left a fandom after going to a fan sign event lol It's best when you support them from afar."
"Precisely. And that's why I don't want to know their personal lives."
"Yeah, I just want to see what they want to show and open up about."
"I could kill to get a front-row seat at concerts but couldn't care less about fan sign events."
What do you think?
Now you know why some fans are adamant their idols would never do this or do that, “it can’t be him/her”, “he/she is just young”, “other idols do it too”… the denial goes on.
Because they have a mental imagery of that idol (skilfully crafted by the agency), and breaking it would fracture this fantasy they thrive on.
