The city of Busan is set to launch a specialized high school focused on K-pop and related performances by converting a soon-to-be-closed middle school.
Announced the Busan Metropolitan City Office of Education on Sunday, a high school that will educate students on K-pop and train them in related performances will open in the Southeastern port city of Busan.
According to Yonhap News, the school is scheduled to open its doors in March 2028. This innovative public high school will mark the first of its kind in Busan, which is located 320 kilometers southeast of Seoul. The educational institution aims to attract both domestic and international students, offering comprehensive lessons in vocals, dance, instruments, and various other arts.
With its primary objective being the provision of specialized courses aligned with the burgeoning K-pop industry, the school is anticipated to cater to the demands of students aspiring to excel in this dynamic field. This initiative aligns with South Korea's established tradition, where major entertainment agencies employ a K-pop idol trainee system characterized by rigorous training and a systematic process, ultimately leading to the debut of new artists.
I don't know whether I should be surprised, think it's good, or think it's stupid.
