The expanding controversy of the recent drug case involving Lee Sun Gyun has led to a wave of disappointment and frustration among fans of his acclaimed works. Many fans have found it hard to detach the actor's current scandal from his well-known character in the drama 'My Mister.'

A Netflix subscriber, 'A,' conveyed their struggle to rewatch 'My Mister.' The fan, reminiscing the joy of the past, was met with a newfound alienation from the drama and eventually ceased watching it. Likewise, a TVing subscriber, referred to as 'B,' also voiced their inability to enjoy the drama the way they used to. They, too, mentioned that the periodic rewatches came to an abrupt halt due to the enveloping controversy around Lee Sun Gyun's alleged drug use.

Lee Sun Gyun, the actor famous for his compelling portrayal of Park Dong Hoon in the tvN drama 'My Mister,' is now under investigation for drug use. The consequences of the scandal reverberated not only in South Korea but also reached a broader audience via various online platforms. Even Chinese viewers, who relied on unauthorized streaming applications and websites, expressed their intent to boycott the drama.

The drama first aired on tvN in 2018 and was a creative masterpiece directed by Kim Won Seok and scripted by Park Ha Young. The drama was acclaimed for several reasons, including well-developed characters, each with their unique struggles and depth. The drama also delved deep into the emotional themes, such as loneliness, hardships, and the search for meaning in life, while realistically telling the story. Also, the cast was praised for the impeccable depiction of the characters. Notably, IU received immense praise for her detailed conveyance of emotion and flawless portrayal of Lee Ji An in 'My Mister.'

Even though the content is more than four years old, it has been seen as one of the best dramas in the K-drama industry so far. Unfortunately, the resurgence in interest has been tarnished by the controversy shadowing Lee Sun Gyun's suspected drug use.

This renewed attention has been met with a cold reception from viewers. Comments lamenting the difficulty in immersing themselves in the drama due to the actor's controversy are now frequent. A user remarked in a related article, "It's not 'My Mister' anymore; it's someone else's Mister." Another stated, "I don't want to watch any works with that actor, not just 'My Mister.'" This negative sentiment has seeped into the streaming services, with 'My Mister' conspicuously missing from the top 10 lists on Netflix and other platforms in South Korea.
