Last week, on the October 14 broadcast of the MBC variety show 'Hangout With Yoo', the cast members took on the challenge of playing cameo roles in the hit historical drama, 'My Dearest'.
All of the cast members including Yoo Jae Suk, Haha, Joo Woo Jae, Park Jin Joo, Lee Yi Kyung, and Lee Mi Joo were given small roles to carry out, and the drama's lead characters including Nam Goong Min and Ahn Eun Jin even came by to watch the filming of the special scenes.
Later on the evening of October 14, the first cameo scene filmed by Yoo Jae Suk and Haha was aired on episode 12 of 'My Dearest'. Playing the role of two enslaved farmers, Yoo Jae Suk and Haha got into an argument while working in the field, bringing laughter to viewers.
However, not all viewers found the lighthearted cameo scene amusing. Some complained that the unnecessary appearance of the 'Hangout With Yoo' cast members took away from the serious tone of 'My Dearest', which depicts the suffering of Joseon people during the Qing invasion of 1636~1637, including the violent separation of two lovers.
In particular, at the end of episode 12, a preview for episode 13 hinted at additional cameo appearances by the other cast members of 'Hangout With Yoo', including Joo Woo Jae, Park Jin Joo, Lee Yi Kyung, and Lee Mi Joo. But a week later, when episode 13 actually aired on October 20, there were no additional cameo scenes to be found. Only a snippet of Lee Yi Kyung's voice was heard in the background.
Now, some are suspecting that MBC chose to edit out the cameo scenes filmed by the other cast of 'Hangout With Yoo' after the backlash received last week.
Meanwhile, another cameo scene was originally supposed to air on episode 15 of 'My Dearest'. Viewers will have to wait and see if MBC ultimately decides to include more of the already filmed cameo scenes, or if the alleged accusations that the variety program struggling with low viewership ratings attempted "ride the success" of 'My Dearest' backfired on Yoo Jae Suk and his crew.
And that’s why nobody gets anything good. Everything gets backlashed, so let’s just throw everything out and everyone gets nothing. I watched the Hangout with Yoo episode; the director wanted some light humour in times of hardship, as the oppressed people find ways to cope and survive.
In Korea people are so sensitive over everything.
