Netflix announced on April 25 KST that they will be investing more than 2.5 billion dollars into Korean content over the next four years, or about 3 trillion won in Korean currency.
Through collaboration with Korean creatives, Netflix has been creating explosive synergies since the uptick in popularity of Korean pop culture. 'Squid Game' has proven both its cinematic quality and popularity by winning the world's leading awards ceremonies.
As a result, among the 10 non-English TV content of all time, a total of four works, including 'Squid Game' at No. 1, 'All of Us Are Dead' at No. 4, 'The Glory' at No. 5, and 'Extraordinary Attorney Woo' at No. 7 were all notable Korean works.
Netflix said, “Despite the contraction of investment due to the global economic downturn, Netflix has never stopped investing in Korean content since entering Korea. Netflix's announcement of additional investment demonstrates its infinite trust in the Korean creative ecosystem as a 'partner' that grows with Korea.”
Furthermore, Netflix emphasized that the world's interest has expanded not only to Korean content, but also to the Korean creators who produce it, promising interesting projects that viewers can look forward to.
