On Friday, March 17, Jimin released the pre-release track 'Set Me Free Pt.2' off his upcoming highly anticipated solo debut album 'FACE,' to be released next Friday on March 24.
With his impeccable talent and skill in vocals and dance, coupled with the extensive popularity that he boasts of across the world and his striking god-like visuals, it is not a surprise that this track was already setting mind-blowing records on various music buying and streaming platforms just minutes after its release.
One such platform was Melon, South Korea's largest music streaming and downloading site. Just 10 minutes after the song's release, Jimin had occupied the top 5 searches on the platform as everyone was searching for his new song immediately after it was released, showing the eager anticipation for Jimin's work from the public.
An hour later, 'Set Me Free Pt.2' was already occupying the #1 spot on Bugs and Melon real-time charts, 13th position on Melon Top 100, and 30th position on Genie.
The high enthusiasm could be seen in the streaming numbers at the end of the day, where Jimin achieved the biggest 2023 solo song debut by a K-pop act, having registered just over 900k streams in the first 24 hours. Overall, the song was the second biggest song debut by K-pop soloists on the platform, just behind 'VIBE' by Taeyang, with Jimin as a featured artist. Additionally, Jimin rose to the #1 spot on Melon's overall daily artist chart just hours after the song's release, and he landed at #49 on the Melon Daily Chart.
A second platform where Jimin set impressive records is on the global music-buying platform, iTunes.
Japan, the second biggest music market in the world, was especially a hot topic among fans for their warm reception of the song and immense support for Jimin. 'Set Me Free Pt.2' quickly shot to the #1 spot on Japan's iTunes chart, achieving this just 30 minutes after the song's release! As such, Jimin beat his own record of 47 minutes previously achieved with 'Promise' which was officially released just over a week ago, and before that, the record was held by 'With You' with 46 minutes. Thus Jimin holds the Top 3 Fastest #1s on Japan iTunes!
Even though Jimin has always been known to be a favorite among Japanese fans and the general public based on his immense brand power in the country as well as the number of times that Japanese celebrities and prominent figures show their respect, love, and affection for him and his craft, it was still amazing to see such impressive results that have kept improving with each song release! Japan is indeed Jiminland!
'Set Me Free Pt.2' displayed an equally impressive performance on iTunes charts in various countries globally.
The song achieved #1 on all of the eight biggest music markets, accomplishing this in less than 7hrs from its release.
Moreover, it became the fastest solo song in history to achieve #1 on iTunes in 100 countries, doing so in just 4 hours and 45 minutes from its time of release. 'With You,' Jimin's collaboration song with Ha Sungwoon, had previously achieved the same record for a collaboration, in just 4 hours and 42 minutes; with this new record, Jimin now holds the record for the top 2 fastest songs to achieve #1 on iTunes in 100 countries.
'Set Me Free Pt.2' then went on to achieve 111 #1s on iTunes in just 10 hours from its release, becoming the FIRST and ONLY song in history to achieve this feat. Notably, out of the available 119 countries that have iTunes presently, 5 of them did not have the song available for purchase, leaving only 114. Therefore, there are just 3 countries left for Jimin to get another iTunes all-kill! He already achieved an iTunes all-kill in all the 119 countries with 'With You' last year, making it the FIRST and ONLY song to achieve #1 in every country that has iTunes!
Such mind-blowing records on iTunes charts globally also saw 'Set Me Free Pt.2' make its debut straight at #1 on both the Worldwide and European iTunes Song Charts.
On Amazon USA, 'Set Me Free Pt.2' shot straight to #1 on the bestseller ranking for different categories, as shown below.
