BTS's Jimin gets recognition and praise for his donation towards the Eradication of Polio from WHO Director General, Rotary International, and more
On the 21st of September, another one of Jimin's good deeds was revealed to the world, leaving many touched by his kindness. According to District Director for Rotary International, Mr. Moon Kyoung Sook, back in July, Jimin had donated 100 Million KRW (Approx. 84,000 USD) to the Rotary Foundation for the eradication of Polio. The funds are set to be released on World Polio Day, the 24th of October, a day set aside to honor virologist Jonas Salk for discovering the vaccine against the disease.
The donation, which was done privately and through his father, was publicly revealed by a fan who happened to spot a banner put up in Go-Seong to announce the donation. While sending this donation, Jimin said, "with the efforts of the Rotary & many other people, the epidemic 'polio' is nearing the end of the world. I donated with the desire to participate in these historical tasks so that no child suffers from Polio." Showing his commitment towards ending the debilitating viral disease which affects children.
As recognition for the 88,496 USD donation, Jimin was added to Rotary Korea's donor status file in their "High Donation Level 3" section. On September 23, the World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, who found out about the donation, thanked Jimin for his generosity which matched his talents, saying:
"Thanks to a generous contribution of KRW100 million made to @Rotary by @BTS_twt Jimin, more children will be able to access polio vaccines. His talent is matched by his generosity and will help @WHO work with our partners to #EndPolio"
The Director-General has on two occasions praised Jimin for his thoughtful sentiments regarding children and health workers struggling to cope during this pandemic. WHO's Social Media and Media Monitoring Head Sari Setiogi, who had earlier thanked him for the donation, has previously hailed Jimin for his commitment toward ending the pandemic and his empathy.
The Rotary International was also not left behind as the regional offices posted messages of gratitude for the donation, as well as praising the group for their promotion of the COVID-19 vaccine. The singer's commitment towards the campaign to End Polio was also highlighted by Brazilian Rotary International Member of the Interact CommitteeGuilherme Isfer, as well as numerous media outlets worldwide.
