On August 12, Goseong Fire Department received an emergency report around 2:16 pm KST about a man in his 40s known as 'A' drowning in the rough water at the beach in Gangwon's Goseong County.
However, when the 119 emergency team had arrived at the scene, 'A' had already been rescued from the raging waters.
At the time of the incident, 'A' had been riding on a tube when a huge wave came in and caused him to fall from the tube, leaving him around 50 meters away from the seashore.
Upon witnessing this, nearby civilians shouted for help, and one civilian Mr. Kim decided to jump into the water to save 'A'.
After getting in reach with 'A', Mr. Kim was able to reach back to the shoreline with the help of 10 other people who joined hands together to create a 'human chain'. It was reported that 'A', who was unconscious at the time of the rescue, was able to regain consciousness after being rushed to a nearby hospital.
In July, a similar situation occurred on the beach in Florida where 80 people banded together to make a 'human chain' and successfully rescued a family of nine.
