An update has been released regarding the 7-year-old boy, Shin Won Young, who was abused to death by his stepmother while his biological father did nothing about the abuse despite knowing it was happening. �

The final trial in this case took place at Suwon on July 11 regarding his stepmother, Ms. Kim (38), and biological father, Mr. Shin (38). �A picture was released of Won Young in the small bathroom, where he was trapped and abused for three months from November to February this year with only a mat and his training suit and underwear. �He was only fed twice a day, and whenever Ms. Kim was in a bad mood, she would violently abuse him. His diet was then reduced to once a day starting in mid-January. �The prosecution also revealed a bowl with a spoon in which he would mix his rice and side dishes. �Apart from hunger, he also suffered from the cold. �One side of the bathroom window had a ventilator so the cold winter wind from the outside would come into the room so it was like he was standing out in the freezing weather.

His energy gradually drained in these harsh conditions, so twice on January 29, she poured 2 liters of crude liquid onto Won Young. �Two days after, she abused him by pouring cold water on him and then leaving him to die. �It was revealed that on the day he died, the temperature in Pyeongtaek was 8 degrees Celsius (46.4 degrees Fahrenheit).�

The prosecution stated, "The results of the appraisal by the National Institute of Scientific Investigation state that Won Young suffered chronic malnutrition and was close to starvation. Won Young's height was 112.5 cm (~ 3'8") and his weight was 15.3 kg (~ 34 lbs), respectively down by 10% and 4%.

"As for Won Young's cause of death, there were complex factors, such as chronic malnutrition for sure as well as a lacerated wound on his forehead, fractures on his collarbones and ribs, chemical burns all over his body from the chlorine bleach, and hypothermia in a state of dehydration. �You could say that Ms. Kim and Mr. Shin, who left Won Young there to play games and drink, left him to die."
