HELLOVENUS x DEVINE CHANNEL PART.1: GLOW
Track List:
1. Glow
After scoring modest hits with "Would You Like Some Tea," "Wiggle Wiggle," and "I'm Ill," Hello Venus has teamed up with producers Devine Channel (miss A) to release "Glow."
While Hello Venus is no stranger to ballads, "Glow" is a different beast altogether. It's slow and steady with no hint of the playful wink that usually lurks in their songs. The vocals here are quite skillful -- and a pleasant surprise to me. It's a very mature track and deviates from the standard ballad format by not threatening to drown out the singer at the end. What's better -- it has a happy ending. All in all, a pleasant listen.
MV REVIEW
In keeping with the overall theme of the song, the girls are looking pretty down. They're hanging out in a house, sometimes outside, singing together, each of them looking pensive, wistful. There are shots in soft light that streams through the windows and in the glow of twilight. The night sees them holding sparklers in defiance of the dark...
The idea is played out subtly that, like the song, their mood shifts from sad to hopeful, and you can see them smiling at the end. Their expressions were well done and convincing. Ultimately, I think this MV succeeds -- largely because of the performances and the way it was shot. Rather than being overplayed the mood is quiet, retaining a dignity during the sad parts.
I like the feels this gave. Not only do you want to console them but there's also the mood-lifter at the end that gives a nice feeling and the promise of happier times ahead. This MV is extremely satisfying, despite the static nature.
