It seems that South Koreans can finally put their fears to rest as the potential end of MERS draws near.
According to health officials, there is a possibility of calling an end to the MERS outbreak in South Korea. A disease outbreak is officially labeled as having ended when no new patients are admitted for double the time of the incubation period; the MERS' incubation period is two weeks. Since July 4, no new cases have been identified, leading officials to consider the possible end of the outbreak that has affected South Korea. If the trend of no additional victims continues, the MERS outbreak could be declared over by August 2.
Currently, MERS has claimed 36 South Korean victims, while 20 patients continue to receive treatment.
