A short 3-minute long video uploaded by a channel called 'TestTube' on YouTube delves briefly into the facts that make South Korea the powerhouse it is today. In comparison to North Korea, which is described as an "impoverished, censored, terrifying, hermit kingdom" (a pretty acute description if I may say so myself), it's more modernized, technologically chic southern neighbor Republic of Korea is described as "wealthy, hyper-successful, and westernized."
Though small in stature, South Korea is one of the most developed nations in the entire world, and the most developed in East Asia according to its high living standards, level of income, education standard, and quality of healthcare. Thanks to the 'Miracle on the Han', Korea was able to propel itself forward by diversifying its existing big businesses, or 'chaebols'--which the reporter mistakenly pronounces as 'kaibeol' (EXO fans, I'm looking at you). South Korea's GDP jumped to a whopping $1.3 trillion in 2013 from just a paltry $3.9 billion in 1960, a growth that can appropriately be described as none other than exponential.
South Korea also has the 7th largest mobilized military in the world, and maintains close relations with another well-known economic powerhouse, namely the U.S.
