BLACKPINK are currently under fire for alleged cultural appropriation.
Some fans and netizens have taken issue with the members' behavior in a clip from the most recent episode of the girl group's 'BLACKPINK DIARIES'. Episode 7 of BLACKPINK's reality series follows the girls behind the scenes of their "Kill this Love" music video, and at one point, Jennie and Rose as well as Lisa and Jisoo dance together.
According to some fans, the BLACKPINK members' dance moves refer to the classical Indian dance Bharatnatyam, and they called out Jennie in particular as they allege she's mimicked the dance on multiple occasions.
Netizens commented, "I suggest the BLINKS who don't know anything about the culture please know that it's wrong, and you don't have to say anything about it. Just don't defend anything because you'll make it worse, and it's not good for Jennie like at all," "I was quiet on this matter until now, but as an Indian, I'm highly offended. I learned Bharatnatyam as a kid, and it was taught to me that this dance is sacred to us and connects us to god. Mocking mudras is beyond limits now and is fuming me," and "She had done it a few times, and it's not okay. She needs to acknowledge what she did and why it's considered wrong."
