BLACKPINK member Rosé’s challenge at the Grammy Awards ended without a win.
At the Grammy Awards held on February 1 (local time) in Los Angeles, Rosé was nominated for Song of the Year with her duet track ‘APT.’ featuring Bruno Mars. However, the award ultimately went to Billie Eilish’s ‘Wildflower.’ Other strong contenders in the category included Sabrina Carpenter’s ‘Manchild.’
Rosé also fell short in the Record of the Year category, where Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s ‘luther’ took home the trophy. Earlier, her nomination for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance was announced during the pre-ceremony, but that award also did not result in a win.
Despite the outcome, Rosé made history as the first K-pop female artist to be simultaneously nominated for Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. Notably, her nominations in the General Fields categories marked another first for a K-pop female artist, even though none led to a win.
Regardless of the results, Rosé took the stage as an opening performer, delivering a performance of ‘APT.’ to kick off the ceremony. Host Trevor Noah drew attention by introducing the Korean-style game rule referenced in the song, adding a unique cultural highlight to the opening.
Meanwhile, the ‘K-pop Demon Hunters’ OST track ‘Golden’ won Best Song Written for Visual Media. Contributors EJAE, Teddy, 24, and production team IDO (Lee Yoo Han, Kwak Jung Gyu, and Nam Hee Dong) became the first K-pop composers and producers to win a Grammy. HYBE x Geffen Records’ global girl group KATSEYE was also nominated in two categories, including Best New Artist, but did not secure a win.
