Kim Soo Hyun's scheduled fan meeting in Taiwan has been officially canceled following allegations concerning the late actress Kim Sae Ron’s underage relationship with him.
On March 25, Taiwan's official 7-Eleven Instagram account posted an announcement titled "Kim Soo Hyun Fan Meeting Update."
The post stated, "We regret to inform you that Kim Soo Hyun will not be able to attend the fan meeting scheduled for March 30 due to scheduling conflicts. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to our members." It also added, "Points used for this event will be refunded within three business days following the date of this announcement. The refunded points will remain valid until December 31, 2026."
Kim Soo Hyun was originally scheduled to attend the fan meeting as part of the 'Kaohsiung Cherry Blossom Festival,' hosted by Taiwan's 7-Eleven. The event was organized as a promotional activity featuring Kim Soo Hyun, the brand's model, with 200 attendees selected through a lottery system.
The event had drawn significant attention both domestically and internationally, as it was expected to be Kim Soo Hyun's first public appearance since the allegations involving Kim Sae Ron surfaced. However, the fan meeting has now been canceled.
The controversy began when Kim Sae Ron’s family claimed through the YouTube channel Garosero Research Institute (HoverLab) on March 10 that Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Sae Ron had been in a relationship for six years, starting in 2016 when Kim Sae Ron was just 15 years old. The family presented alleged evidence, including handwritten letters Kim Soo Hyun supposedly sent to Kim Sae Ron during his military service and a photo of Kim Soo Hyun kissing Kim Sae Ron on the cheek.
In response, Kim Soo Hyun's agency, Gold Medalist, denied the allegations on March 14, stating that Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Sae Ron had only dated from the summer of 2019 to the fall of 2020, after Kim Sae Ron had reached adulthood. The agency also refuted claims that Kim Soo Hyun had neglected Kim Sae Ron’s financial issues, revealing that he had paid off debts worth several hundred million KRW on her behalf.
On March 20, Gold Medalist filed a lawsuit against Kim Sae Ron's family. The agency claimed that explicit photos of Kim Soo Hyun, including one showing him with his pants down, had been distributed through Garosero Research Institute. The lawsuit was filed against Garosero Research Institute’s operator, Kim Se Eui, and an unidentified person who identified themselves as Kim Sae Ron's aunt, accusing them of violating South Korea’s Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes (distribution of illegal filming).
