Actor Choi Woo Sik’s past remarks about Kim Soo Hyun have resurfaced following recent allegations concerning the latter’s personal life.
On March 10, reports emerged that Kim Soo Hyun was allegedly involved in a relationship with the late actress Kim Sae Ron when she was a minor, sparking widespread controversy. Amid the public scrutiny, Choi Woo Sik’s past comments about Kim Soo Hyun’s reputation have drawn renewed attention.
During a 2014 appearance on MBC’s 'Radio Star,' Choi Woo Sik was questioned about his relationship with Kim Soo Hyun. When the show’s MC brought up an old interview where Choi had jokingly remarked, “I heard bad rumors about him,” Choi appeared flustered.
Choi clarified, stating, “Soo Hyun brother probably doesn’t even know me. We worked on the movie 'Secretly, Greatly' together, but in all my scenes, I was always hitting him from behind. I hit him really hard.” Comedian Yoon Jong Shin then quipped, “So you not only hit him but also dissed him?” Choi, seemingly cautious, responded, “That’s not it. I actually wanted to get close to him, but he kept a distance.”

This led to further teasing from the show’s hosts. Yoon asked, “Are you dissing him even more now?” and MC Kyuhyun added, “Aren’t you the one who started those rumors?” Actress Ra Mi Ran, who was also on the show, jokingly remarked, “Kim Soo Hyun is picky about the people he associates with,” while fellow guest Kim Ki Bang commented, “Soo Hyun is a friendly guy. This is strange.” These exchanges left Choi visibly flustered.
At the time, netizens reacted with curiosity, saying, “They should have a conversation and clear things up,” “What are these bad rumors about?” and “What did Choi Woo Sik hear to make him say that?”
Meanwhile, the controversy surrounding Kim Soo Hyun escalated following claims made by Kim Sae Ron’s family through the YouTube channel Garo Sero Research Institute. They alleged that Kim and Kim Soo Hyun were in a relationship for six years, from 2015 to 2021, starting when she was 15 years old. Furthermore, they claimed that Kim Sae Ron worked for Kim Soo Hyun’s agency, Gold Medalist, assisting with rookie casting and visual directing, but received no support from the agency when she faced legal troubles due to her DUI incident. Instead, she allegedly received a legal notice demanding she repay a debt of 700 million KRW (approximately $532,000).
Following these developments, online users revisited Choi Woo Sik’s old interview, commenting, “If you watch the full video, Choi Woo Sik keeps stuttering but never denies it as a joke or lie,” “He was indirectly confirming the rumors,” “Choi Woo Sik’s remarks were overshadowed by Kim Soo Hyun’s popularity,” and “This is as good as solid evidence.”
As the controversy continues to unfold, the public remains divided over the validity of these claims.
