In a video posted by the YouTube channel Kwangjae Sister on February 3, actor Kwon Sang Woo shared a personal story about contracting a parasite.
The video shows Kwon Sang Woo chatting with former basketball player-turned-actor Park Kwang Jae at a grilled intestines restaurant. During the conversation, Kwon Sang Woo revealed his fondness for liver and beef tripe, saying, "When I go to a grilled intestines restaurant, they usually serve liver and beef tripe. I really like that."
He then reminisced about an incident in 2010 while filming the drama 'Big Thing' with actress Go Hyun Jung. "There were many high-quality beef shops around the filming set," Kwon recalled. "They would serve a lot of liver and beef tripe as a service. I really enjoyed it and ate a lot."
However, things took a surprising turn when Kwon underwent a full medical check-up that year. "During the CT scan, I found that my lungs had turned completely white," he said, adding that he had just gotten married at the time.
The doctor informed Kwon that he had developed a parasite infection due to excessive consumption of liver and beef tripe. "I thought, 'Am I going to die?'" Kwon recalled.
When Kwon asked the doctor what he should do, the response was simple: "It will go away naturally." As a precaution, Kwon took medication for parasites and refrained from eating liver and beef tripe for several years afterward.
Kwon Sang Woo married actress Son Tae Young in 2008. They have a son, Kwon Luk Hee, born in 2009, and a daughter, Kwon Ri Ho, born in 2015.
