KBS
, or Korean Broadcasting System, is South Korea's national broadcaster under the Ministry of Economy and Finance. As one of the country's leading television and radio broadcasters, KBS hosts a variety of popular music shows. However, KBS's review board sometimes bans songs and music videos by artists, including K-pop idols, after a careful review process.

Here are some of the songs by YG artists that KBS has banned from airing, along with the reasons behind the bans.

GENTLEMAN [PSY]

PSY's "Gentleman" faced a ban on its music video due to a scene where PSY kicks a 'no parking' traffic cone, which was seen as an act of vandalism and damage to public property.

FXXK IT [BIGBANG]

BIGBANG's hit song "FXXK IT" was banned by KBS for containing inappropriate language, including the slang word ‘Yangachi,’ which translates to ‘thug.’

ZUTTER [GD&T.O.P]

The song "ZUTTER" by GD&T.O.P was banned because of its coarse language and explicit content, both in the lyrics and the title.

WE LIKE 2 PARTY [BIGBANG]

Another BIGBANG track, "WE LIKE 2 PARTY" from their 'MADE' album, was banned due to the inclusion of brand names and inappropriate language in the lyrics.

I'M BUSY [2NE1]

2NE1's "I'M BUSY" was ruled unfit for broadcast by KBS due to the use of the word ‘Babo,’ meaning ‘fool’ or ‘dumb.’

Galaxy [AKMU]

KBS banned AKMU’s "Galaxy" because the lyrics mention the word 'galaxy' nine times, which was interpreted as indirect advertising for Samsung’s Galaxy series.

EVERYDAY [WINNER]

WINNER's "EVERYDAY" was banned due to the mention of the word ‘Lotto’ in Mino's lyrics, which KBS saw as potentially encouraging illegal gambling among young listeners.

ISLAND [WINNER]

KBS banned “ISLAND” by WINNER and stated that ‘the song had obscene imagery such as intercourse between a man and a woman, or homosexuality.’ One of the problematic lyrics was ‘I want to mix with you on the sofa like you shake a cocktail.’

FULL HOUSE [MOBB]

KBS banned “FULL HOUSE” by MOBB and stated the song contains the use of specific brand names, mentions of Japanese remarks, derogatory terms, references to driving under the influence, and worrisome lyrics, which may hinder healthy thoughts in today’s youth.

HOLUP! [BOBBY]

“HOLUP!” By iKON’s Bobby was unfit to broadcast by KBS for cursing, derogatory and crude terms, Japanese terms, uses of specific brand names, references to an over-extensive amount of drinking, and more.

BOOMBAYAH [BLACKPINK]

BLACKPINK’s smash hit debut track “BOOMBAYAH” was banned by KBS because of the lyrics mentioning ‘Henny,’ which is a shortened term for liquor Hennessy. It furthermore contains inappropriate language that goes, ‘Middle finger up F.’

Kill This Love [BLACKPINK]

The music video for "Kill This Love" was banned due to a scene featuring Rosé driving at high speed without a seatbelt and standing in the middle of the road, violating South Korea’s road traffic act.

PINK VENOM [BLACKPINK]

BLACKPINK’s "Pink Venom" was deemed unfit for broadcast due to lyrics that indirectly promote brand products, specifically through mentions of Chanel and Celine.

CLIK CLAK [BABYMONSTER]

“CLICK CLAK,” one of the double title tracks from BABYMONSTER’s first studio album ‘DRIP,’ was banned by KBS because of mentioning specific luxury product brands—Maybach, Ferrari, and Cartier.

Mantra [JENNIE]

KBS ruled Jennie’s solo comeback hit “MANTRA” unfit for airing because of the violation of article 46, which restricts advertising effects.

These bans highlight the delicate balance KBS must maintain when it comes to broadcasting content.
