The recently concluded SBS survival show 'Universe League' has unveiled the name of its debut group: AHOF. The name, derived from the Korean word '아홉' (pronounced ah-hope) meaning "nine," represents the nine final members selected through the competition and also takes the acronyms from the phrase "All-time Hall Of Famer" for the English name.
However, the group's name has sparked confusion among Korean netizens.
Korean netizens gathered in a popular online community to give their two cents on the group's name and commented:
"100% sure at least one member will leave after promotions."
"You're not supposed to include the number of members in the team name."
"Stop..."
"I think it's unexpectedly okay, simple. The question is, will the number of members stay the same? Haha."
"Looking at just the group name, I think it gets prettier the more you look at it, but it seems like it'll be too hard to search for."
"Nine? It's not great, why go with 'ahop'..."
"Debut song: I HOPE. Lol"
"They say don't put the number of members in the group name, but they keep wanting to do it, haha"
"It's not bad?"
"But it does sound somewhat okay..."
"Seems like they named it without much thought... Just made a name based on the number of members."
What do you think about the name?
