Big Bang's T.O.P has confirmed an interview for 'Squid Game Season 2' after much contemplation. According to OSEN's coverage on the morning of January 10th, T.O.P will meet with the press for an interview related to 'Squid Game Season 2' on January 15th.
The production team of the Netflix series 'Squid Game Season 2' revealed that T.O.P will meet with journalists at a café in Seoul on that day. According to those close to him, T.O.P had been deeply contemplating whether or not to participate in an interview but recently made the difficult decision to go ahead with it.
Initially, T.O.P had been excluded from the roundtable interviews with the lead actors of 'Squid Game Season 2,' which Netflix had arranged for the press on December 20th. The actors who participated in the interview included Lee Jung Jae, Park Gyu Young, Yang Dong Geun, Lee Seo Hwan, Wi Ha Joon, Kang Ae Sim, Lee Byung Hun, Park Sung Hoon, Im Si Wan, and Jo Yu Ri. Director Hwang Dong Hyuk also joined the interviews. While most of the lead cast participated,T.O.P’s name was noticeably absent, especially considering his strong performance as 'Thanos' in the series.
T.O.P's involvement in 'Squid Game Season 2' had been controversial from the start. After being sentenced to 10 months in prison with a 2-year suspended sentence for marijuana use in 2016, his past led to some reluctance from the public. There were also rumors suggesting that T.O.P’s casting was due to his personal relationships with prominent figures like Lee Jung Jae and Lee Byung Hun. Although his performance received praise abroad, it sparked divided opinions within Korea.
Following the announcement of his participation in 'Squid Game Season 2,' T.O.P largely stayed out of promotional activities, including the trailer, production presentation, and global showcase. Even his personal social media was silent during this period.
With news of his absence from interviews, speculation arose that T.O.P might have been excluded from 'Squid Game Season 2's promotional schedule. At the time, representatives explained to OSEN, "The interviews were primarily scheduled for the cast members who attended the production presentation." When asked whether T.O.P might participate in interviews at a later date, they cautiously stated, "It’s a situation that requires discussion."
Now, nearly a month after the interviews with the lead actors concluded, T.O.P has finally agreed to an interview. All eyes are on what he will reveal during this long-awaited conversation.
