One year ago, actor Yoo Ah In and popular YouTuber Hairmon (Kim Woo Jun) were charged with violating the Narcotics Control Act. The two, along with multiple accomplices, were accused of smoking marijuana while visiting the United States.
Ultimately, Hairmon was sentenced to pay a fine of 5 million won, and to complete 40 hours of drug addiction rehabilitation education.
Now that the trial has concluded, Hairmon recently posted a statement updating fans on the results. He started by saying, "I would like to apologize to the fans who were disappointed and hurt because of me, and to everyone who is reading this," and continued, "There were many questions about this situation over the past year. The reason I waited so long to give an explanation was so that the investigation process could proceed in a clear environment, without interference. Now, the investigation and verdict for the case have been decided, so I would like to tell you my position."
“I was investigated on charges of smoking marijuana in 2023. As reported in the media, it was determined that I only started smoking the marijuana due to continued demands despite my refusal, so I was determined not guilty on that aspect. Regarding the part where I continued to smoke the marijuana after that, the National Forensic Service’s detailed examination determined that it was done in order to pretend to smoke. As a result, the smoking itself was acknowledged and I was sentenced to a fine.
The court said that they took into account the fact that it was a third party's recommendation for me to smoke, that it was not habitual action, and that I actively cooperated with the investigation process and my statements were consistent. However, since I clearly know that I failed to deal with the situation wisely, I reflected on all my mistakes, completed the rehabilitation education, and paid the fine immediately. Other than that, I have never used drugs in my life and I promise that I will not in the future… Since I made all the decisions about my actions, I think I am fully responsible for them, and I apologize for causing more pain to you all. I will accept the criticism from many people and reflect even more.”
Hairmon finished the post by thanking his friends, family, and fans who have supported him during this time.
