On December 14, all five members of NewJeans—Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein—opened a new social media account under the username 'jeanzforfree'and uploaded a video.
In the video, the NewJeans members sit closely together, greeting fans with a cheerful "Hi" and assuring them, "It's really us." Their warm demeanor showcased their affection for fans.
The sudden launch of a new account has stirred curiosity among fans, who commented, "Are they not using the old account anymore?" "I've missed them," "Looking forward to new music," and "Since the old account belongs to ADOR, I guess they can't use it anymore." Others noted, "They seem happy, and that’s a relief," and speculated, "Are they going to promote under the name 'NewJeanz' now?"
This move comes amidst NewJeans' legal dispute with their former agency, ADOR. On November 13, the group served ADOR with a formal notice demanding the resolution of six contractual violations within 14 days, warning that failure to comply would lead to contract termination. On November 28, they held a press conference announcing, "We will terminate our contract with ADOR effective November 29 at midnight. The responsibility lies with HYBE and ADOR, so we have no reason to file a lawsuit or pay penalties." They assured fans that all scheduled activities would proceed as planned.
On December 3, ADOR responded by filing a lawsuit with the Seoul Central District Court to confirm the validity of the group's exclusive contract. ADOR stated, "We seek to legally establish that our exclusive contract with NewJeans remains in effect."
NewJeans countered with a firm rebuttal, stating, "According to the terms of our exclusive contract, there is no longer any reason for us to work with ADOR or HYBE. The contract explicitly states that we have the right to terminate it if ADOR fails to fulfill its obligations."
With the launch of 'jeanzforfree,' fans are speculating whether the group will continue under the name 'NewJeanz.' While their legal battle with ADOR unfolds, the group’s proactive engagement with fans hints at a new chapter in their career.
