The members of the group NewJeans have donated 100 million KRW (About 70,000 USD) to support children and adolescents caring for family members, despite recently announcing the termination of their exclusive contracts with their agency, ADOR. Without mentioning the group name, the donation was made under the name of their fandom, Bunnies.
On December 19, the child welfare organization ChildFund Korea stated, "Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein donated 100 million KRW to reduce the caregiving burden on children and adolescents caring for their families at the end of the year, helping them find balance in their lives and focus on their growth."
Children and adolescents caring for family members are those who, during their formative years, take on the responsibility of looking after family members who require assistance due to age, disability, or illness.
The donation will be used to provide support for 30 households across the country, addressing needs such as living expenses, housing, education, medical care, and promoting self-reliance through career and employment assistance.
The members shared their thoughts on the initiative, stating, "We wanted to support the healthy growth of children and adolescents who are caring for their families by offering essential aid and encouraging their independence. We will continue to pay attention to these children so they can find and achieve their dreams."
Shin Jung Won, head of the Social Contribution Cooperation Division at ChildFund Korea, said, "We hope this support will ease the burdens of children and adolescents caring for family members, allowing them to focus on their personal growth and independence. We will continue to provide various forms of support to help more children grow in an environment of warmth and encouragement."
NewJeans recently announced their termination of exclusive contracts with ADOR and have since established new social media accounts, continuing their activities independently.
In response, ADOR released a statement on December 18, saying, "Any social media accounts created outside of the official NewJeans accounts established by ADOR have been set up without prior consultation, as stipulated in the exclusive contract. These unauthorized accounts and their content have led to inquiries and complaints from advertisers and third parties, raising concerns. We hope that the NewJeans members will continue to communicate with fans through the official channels as before."
