Lucy member Choi Sang Yeop has apologized for a controversial comment he made.
On December 3, Choi Sang Yeop, during a Bubble (paid communication) session with fans, responded to a fan who mentioned "my Polaroid camera" by saying, "Paper popper (종이싸개; Jong Yi Ssa Gae)." When the fan asked, "What’s a paper popper?" he explained, "When you take a Polaroid, paper pops out."
Many fans criticized the use of this word, noting its similarity to "Blood Popper" (피싸개, Pi Ssa Gae), a derogatory term used in male-dominated online communities to refer to women during their menstrual periods.
After the comment sparked controversy, Choi Sang Yeop issued an apology through Bubble saying, "I have come to realize that a word I sent through Bubble has disappointed many people. I deeply apologize for causing concern to those who supported me due to my careless choice of words."
He further clarified, "The word I used absolutely did not carry any other meaning or intent." Choi Sang Yeop added, "However, I deeply reflect on my carelessness and will ensure I am more cautious moving forward. Although my apology is late, I wanted to send this message to sincerely apologize to those who were disappointed."
He concluded, "I will act with greater caution in the future. Once again, I sincerely apologize to everyone who supports me."
