J.Y. Park reveals that VCHA will make a comeback in 2025

VCHA quickly made waves with their debut ‘Girls of the Year’ in January of 2024, following their formation during the show 'A2K' hosted by JYP Entertainment. It seemed the group had gotten off to a strong start, as they participated in many high-profile activities to build up their fanbase, from opening multiple concerts for TWICE to appearing on the cover of Teen Vogue.

However, after the group’s first comeback in March, VCHA shocked fans by completely disappearing. Member Kaylee went on indefinite hiatus for health reasons beginning in March, and since then, the group’s social media accounts have been almost completely inactive. Notably, VCHA also cancelled their highly-anticipated Lollapalooza performance this summer, disappointing fans and casting doubt on the group’s future. It has now been almost 9 months since VCHA has participated in any activities at all, or even posted on social media.

However, at the 2024 MAMA Awards, JYP Entertainment founder J.Y. Park surprisingly revealed the official plans for VCHA’s future. He began by expressing his vision for VCHA to become a truly global group that will be successful overseas as well as in Korea.

“I wanted to make sure they're not K-pop as far as music and visual. Even though they're produced by a K-pop company, I don't want them to be K-pop, I want them to be what they are. They're not born and raised in Korea, they're not influenced by Korean culture, they are talented kids who are born and raised here [in the United States]. We are trying to make sure the next upcoming album is themselves. Unlike our K-pop and Korean artists, I think the creative teams will be a combination with American producers, musicians, choreographers, and making sure it's them. It's going to be very different. The new music, the album, the new video will be very different from JYP.”

When asked by a reporter whether it’s possible that VCHA could be performing at next year’s MAMA Awards, and whether all the group’s members would participate, J.Y. Park stated: “We are preparing for full activities next year for VCHA. Our plan is to differentiate this group from our existing K-pop artists with special and unique content. The training period is taking a little longer than usual because the preparation effort is taking longer than expected.

Fans are excited and hopeful to hear news of VCHA’s future plans as a group, especially after their long hiatus. Given KATSEYE’s explosive success recently, the expectations for global K-pop groups are only growing more and more. With VCHA’s planned return in 2025, fans are eagerly waiting to see what the group has prepared.
