IU revealed why she stopped checking social media messages.
On November 15, IU featured as a guest on tvN's 'Free Dr.', where she revealed she stopped communicating with her fans via social media because of constant requests for money. According to an entertainment reporter, IU received financial requests from alleged fans who claimed they were suffering from hospital bills, tuition fees, or debts, and asked her for help.
One internet user, who pretended to be fan, sent IU lengthy messages over several months asking for money. Feeling sympathy, IU had event sent money on one occasion only for the user to continue to demand more money. Eventually, IU realized she had been scammed. Shockingly, the account she had sent money to had already been switched to a different one by the time IU discovered the scam.
As a result of this experience, IU was deeply hurt and stopped checking messages on social media. Despite this, she's continued her numerous donations to charities, consistently making a positive impact on society.
In other news, IU recently took legal action against over 180 individuals, including former classmates, for online harassment.
