Content creator KwakTube (Kwak Joon Bin) has been removed from the Ministry of Education’s school violence prevention content series 'Find the Defender' following his involvement in the so-called "Lee Na Eun defense controversy."
According to OSEN, on October 22, all of KwakTube’s appearances were deleted from the program.
'Find the Defender' is a web drama where KwakTube, under the codename "KwakTube," searches for defenders to prevent school violence. The show features actors Ok Ye Rin, Im Tae Poong, and Nam Ye An, and was initially scheduled to air on the 20th of last month. However, due to the controversy surrounding KwakTube’s comments in defense of Lee Na Eun, the broadcast was postponed.
KwakTube faced criticism after making remarks that appeared to defend Lee Na Eun, a former member of the group April, who had been accused of bullying a fellow member. In a video posted on his YouTube channel documenting a trip to Italy with Lee Na Eun, KwakTube’s comments were perceived as supportive of her, leading to significant backlash.
Given KwakTube’s past as someone who has openly shared his experiences as a victim of school violence, many people were particularly disappointed by his remarks.
As a result, the release of 'Find the Defender' was unofficially delayed just three days before its scheduled airing, and KwakTube’s scenes were removed.
The Ministry of Education told OSEN, “We have decided internally that KwakTube’s appearance is no longer possible. While the concept of the show will be maintained, scenes featuring KwakTube will be replaced with others.”
Following the controversy, KwakTube took down the problematic video on his YouTube channel and issued an apology.
He stated, “As a victim of school violence, I still carry scars. I believed that because of my own experience, I could better understand this issue, but my arrogance was the problem. I deeply regret that my poor judgment could have caused additional harm to victims.”
Since the controversy, KwakTube has faced negative public backlash, being labeled as a "canceled" Youtuber. After a brief period of self-reflection, he is gradually attempting to return to the broadcast industry.
