The sentencing of Park Soo Hong’s sister-in-law, Lee, who was indicted on defamation charges, has been postponed to November.
According to reports on October 22nd KST, the sentencing of Lee, who was charged with defaming Park Soo Hong and his wife Kim Da Ye, has been canceled, and the trial will be reopened.
Originally, the sentencing was scheduled for October 23rd KST; however, the Seoul Western District Court canceled the date. The court decided to reopen the trial after issuing a clarification order to the prosecution, and the new trial date is set for November 6th KST.
Last October, Park Soo Hong filed a defamation lawsuit against Lee under the Information and Communications Network Act. According to the prosecution, Lee had sent messages in a group chat on KakaoTalk claiming that Park Soo Hong’s accusations of embezzlement against her and her husband were false, and that Park had cohabitated with a woman during his broadcasting career.
In January, during the trial, Lee denied the charges, claiming that she had no intention to defame and was unaware that the claims were false. However, during the fifth hearing in September, Lee was sentenced to 10 months in prison, with the final ruling initially scheduled for November 23rd, but it has now been postponed.
In a separate case, Park Soo Hong’s brother and sister-in-law are also on trial for embezzlement under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes. They are accused of embezzling tens of billions of won from Park Soo Hong’s company and personal funds over a period of 10 years, from 2011 to 2021.
