Oh My Girl’s Seunghee shares why filming ‘Jung Nyeoni’ reminded her of her trainee days.
On October 7th, tvN aired ‘Jung Nyeoni: Final Rehearsal,’ where Oh My Girl’s Seunghee opened up about the emotions she felt while filming.
Seunghee plays the role of Chorok, a fellow trainee who joins the Maeran National Theater Company through auditions alongside the protagonist, Jung Nyeon (played by Kim Tae Ri). Chorok resents and antagonizes Jung Nyeon but is ultimately portrayed as a simple, easy-to-read character with a cute personality.
During the broadcast, Seunghee remarked, “The more I got to know about it, the more fascinating it became. I realized that traditional female theater (Yeoseong Gukgeuk) from back then is very similar to K-pop today. From the trainee selection process to the emotions of wanting to rise step by step, and even the competition among the girls within the group—it all felt very familiar to me.”
She added, “Especially during the evaluation scenes, so many memories of my trainee days came flooding back. I remembered how nervous and anxious I used to feel.”
The upcoming tvN drama ‘Jung Nyeoni,’ which will air on October 12th, is set in the 1950s, after the Korean War. It tells the story of Jung Nyeon, a natural-born vocal genius, as she strives to become the top national theater actress, while also portraying the competition, solidarity, and the brilliant growth of the characters.
Directed by Jung Ji In, known for ‘The Red Sleeve,’ the drama stars Kim Tae Ri as Jung Nyeon, Shin Ye Eun as Heo Yeong Seo, Ra Mi Ran as Kang So Bok, Jung Eun Chae as Moon Ok Kyung, and Kim Yoon Hye as Seo Hye Rang.
